An extension of our business since 2001, Beaumont Pottery School is a small private school designed to provide basic instruction in wheel-thrown pottery using the Beaumont method. With several class times offered, students will learn to turn, trim, and glaze pottery in a relaxing environment.
A maximum of six students per class assures that each student will receive individual attention. Jerry Beaumont personally oversees each class and will be instructing special workshops as well as demonstrating during certain class times. In addition, we offer many opportunities for advancing students to practice throwing during open studio times.

Using a few simple tools, new students will learn at the outset to center several half-pound balls of clay and to make small saucers. Our instructors will emphasize proper form, use of tools, and techniques to make the process interesting, effective, and fun. As students become more comfortable with the medium, they will begin to form cylinders and use more clay to make larger pieces.
It has been said that the skill of a potter is not measured by how many years he has been making pots but by how many pots he has made. By practicing a shape repeatedly and learning about the physical properties of clay under the attentive watch of our instructors, beginners will acquire the skills and habits to have good and predictable results. Although students will advance at differing rates, experience has proven that a solid foundation in the basics leads to greater success with more difficult forms.
